Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 60-year-old VICTOR A. SOTO of Fairview, NJ for attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. This arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Fairview Police Department, under the direction of Chief Vincent Bellucci.
On Saturday, March 14, 2026, at approximately 1:23 a.m., the Fairview Police Department responded to a stabbing incident on Grant Street. Upon arrival, responding officers located a 60-year-old male with stab wounds to his face, hands, and legs. The victim was immediately transported to HMH Palisades Medical Center and hospitalized with serious injuries. A suspect who fled the scene was quickly located and taken into custody by Fairview Police.
Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit were notified, responded to the scene, and joined the investigation with the Fairview Police Department. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene to assist. The joint investigation revealed that the suspect who was located by officers, later fully identified as VICTOR A. SOTO, assaulted the victim by stabbing him multiple times before fleeing.
As a result of the investigation, VICTOR A. SOTO was charged with first-degree attempted murder, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1/11-3; second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1); third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4d; and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5d. SOTO was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending further action in Bergen County Superior Court.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
