5/15 Update on Secaucus' Coronavirus Statistics

By Staff Writer, Posted 05-15-2020
Last week, Secaucus residents were finally beginning to see the curve flatten. But with social distancing restrictions gradually loosening, there was a risk that the number of COVID-19 cases may creep back up again. Luckily, according to the statistics from this past week, this is not the case. In fact, by looking at the graph below, one can see that there has been no new cases of contractions or Coronavirus related deaths in the last three days. (Click on any of the data points on the graph to see specific details.) So if anything, it looks like the spread of the virus has temporarily stopped in Secaucus.

In the last seven days, the number of reported Coronavirus cases in Secaucus went up from 494 to 509. That's an increase of 3.0%, which is drastically down from last week's increase of 13.3%, So Secaucus definitely seems to be on the right trend. But of course, it is still way too early to draw any conclusions yet. Even if there has been no new cases in the past three days, it doesn't mean the curve has officially "flattened" already. Data for a longer period of time is needed to come to that determination. Furthermore, the local Walmart and Sam's Club attracts a plethora of out-of-town shoppers. So even if there are no new cases of COVID-19 at the moment, local residents are still potentially exposed to the virus on a regular basis. Therefore, this is not the time to get a false sense of security, and we need to continue to be cautious.
