Last week, Secaucus' COVID-19 infection rate trended down for a change. But this week, unfortunately, that infection rate slingshotted back up to its highest value ever. The number of new coronavirus cases reported this week jumped to a new record high. Over the last seven days, the total number of cases grew from 1217 to 1400, an increase of 183 cases. Comparing this number to last week's, it shows that the infection rate has increased by a staggering 83.0%. Many medical experts have predicted that such an uptick is to be expected due to family gatherings during Thanksgiving. If that's indeed what caused this increase in Secaucus, things will probably get worse over the next few weeks since Christmas gatherings are also right around the corner. In New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo just suspended indoor dining again for New York City restaurants. In Paterson, schools have just extended their all-remote learning program until at least March. At this rate, it is likely that Secaucus will see similar restrictions be put into place again over the next few weeks unless there is a sudden turnaround in the spread of the virus.
