By Staff Writer, Posted 12-18-2020
Although the infection rate is still very high compared to two months ago, it did slow down significantly this week. On the flip side, however, there was also a new case of coronavirus-related death this week. See the details in the graph below. Compared to last week, the number of coronavirus cases grew by 66 cases, as the total increased from 1400 to 1466. While 66 is still a very large number for a town like Secaucus, this is a dramatic drop from last week's 183 new cases, resulting in a 63.9% lower infection rate. Hopefully, with COVID-19 vaccines beginning to be rolled out in New Jersey over the next few weeks, this number will continue to go down. But of course, vaccinations won't be readily available to everyone for at least a few months. And even then, not everyone will be immediately getting vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. Therefore, we should not rely on vaccines alone to control the spread of the virus. This is especially the case with holiday gatherings coming up. After all, the sooner the virus is under control, the sooner life can return to normal for Secaucus residents.
