JOB TITLE: ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATOR
EXEMPT (Y/N): TBD SALARY LEVEL: $45,000-$55,000
HOURS: *9:00 to 4:00 pm DIVISION: Environmental
LOCATION: Town Hall Annex DEPARTMENT: Administration
UNION AFFIL.: White Collar Unit SUPERVISOR: Town Administrator

SUMMARY: Responsible for a broad range developing, counseling, promoting, supervising, and presenting the Town's environmental initiatives; does related work as required.

*On occasion, hours may vary.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Responsible for finding, applying, writing and obtaining environmental grants. As part of this activity will be the project team leader for any environmental grants the Town receives.
  • Responsible for completing reports as required by the grant as well as related status updates.
  • Responsible to set up and maintain all municipally owned community gardens and recruit volunteers as well identify new sites for additional community gardens.
  • Responsible for educational outreach on environmental issues throughout the community including the local school system, businesses, and other venues.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Environment Department page on green.secaucusnj.gov.
  • Responsible for organizing annual Green Festival. As well as the festival's associated fundraising, volunteer recruitment, solicitation and scheduling of vendors, presenters, music, food, activities, and exhibits.
  • Serve as the Sustainability Advisor for Mayor and Council as well as other departments and community members.
  • Responsible for developing initiatives related to waste reduction, improved recycling, energy conservation, and resource protection and any other projects and programs that will make Secaucus a more sustainable community.
  • Responsible for initiating and completing tasks, reporting and the overall management of the Town of Secaucus' participation in the Sustainable Jersey program.
  • Responsible for organizing activities, communication, and meeting once a month, or as necessary, with Environmental Committee or Green Team and the Shade Tree Committee.
  • Attend ANJEC and Sustainable Jersey conferences along with other green workshops and report new materials to Environmental Committee and Green Team as required.
  • Responsible for collecting recycling tonnage reports from local businesses and reporting them to the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection annually.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Policy/Science/Studies or equivalent degree.
  • Must be willing to obtain certification to be a Certified Recyciing Professional (CRP).
  • Excellent oral and written and communication skills.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and customer services skills in dealing with courteously and tactfully with the public and other personnel.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong organization skills, accuracy to details.
  • Strong aptitude for complying and preparing reports while dealing with numbers for tonnage reports.
  • Knowledge and understanding of government operation.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access and other databases.
  • Must be able to disseminate information relating to Town operations in a clear, concise, and consistent manner.
